Drake unveils another addition to his timestamp collection with the unexpected launch of “8AM in Charlotte” ahead of his anticipated new solo album, “For All the Dogs.”
Last night, the artist who once refuted a sequel to “Summer Games” dropped a video for the latest song on social platforms. The clip begins with Drake conversing with his five-year-old, Adonis, inquiring about the “remarkable artwork” he recently acquired from him.
According to Adonis, the artwork, which also graced the cover of Drake and SZA’s “Slime You Out” – illustrates a goat fleeing from menacing creatures, with a blazing flower obstructing its path. The goat’s moniker, Adonis shares, is Daddy Goat.
Drake responds to his son with, “That sounds just right.”
Following this, Drake dives into his signature timestamp style, rapping over a Conductor Williams rhythm. Early in the track, listeners catch Drake pondering the burden of his “moral compass” as he gears up for the “It’s All a Blur” tour alongside 21 Savage.
“Breaking news, they tried to kill ‘em, but the boy prevails
I leave for tour and my n****s fuckin’ go to jail
Preachin’ to the dogs about wantin’ more for themselves
It’s weighin’ heavy on my moral scale”
As fans will point out, “8AM in Charlotte” is preceded in the timestamp series by the Her Loss cut “3AM on Glenwood,” which stands alone in the series due to 21 taking the lead instead of Drake.
For All the Dogs is expected to be released Friday. At the time of this writing, “8AM in Charlotte” was only available on social media and had not yet been made streamable on Apple Music, Spotify, etc.
