Now a days there’s been a surplus of producers who’ve been adopting the hobby or waking up to their passion of making music. Starting from the ages of a 15 year old being in high school all the way to age of 88 like the old king Quincy Jones. But one of the major questions that linger through our mind is, how do they create a track like “Liberian Girl” for people like Michael Jackson or how Prince created the song “When doves cry”.
Truthfully when it comes to music there is no real formula. It’s something that’s in you that can’t be denied its freedom to release. It’s a voice in you that wants to express itself somehow someway. But for any or almost every producer at some point in their career they have to learn the basics of putting together a song. So you sit and wonder how many instruments go in a song track? Or how do i make a track for a singer. Here’s my take on it
When it comes to producing, you can go at it from so many different avenues. One being from the songwriters perspective, when it comes to Songerwriters generally they’ll always have chords to start off with, the chords usually project the direction they’ll be going in for the song, (personally i don’t know music theory so i couldn’t tell ya about the major keys, but i do know “A,B,C,D,E,F,G”) learning how to position your fingers and let them step back and forth is how you get the song to start speaking for you. After youv’e played your piano chords you’d want to add that bass, which is for most the drums whether it be a 808, or a high low toned EQ for that thump. for others the classical bass guitar to get your feet moving does the trick as well. you could think of james brown one of the originators when it comes to the bass and moving your feet which goes back to the era of soul and funk. after getting past your development of the bass the next instrument to add would be some high pitched tones ya know, for instance, some voices of phrases or single shots or a chandelier shattering effect to give it that sprinkle of fairy dust, that texture . Once you combine all the elements to your liking, i believe you’ve got you either a cool or uniquely made r&b song track that you could sell or write to yourself
