“I think my favorite part about being a Rapper and finally being able to do it out loud, is people looking at me crazy as fuck.”  This is what the Yungstar Mvllibu had to say about herself when asked what she loves the most about rapping. The new Houstonian who’s been making the name for herself around the city from rapping at shows, modeling, to even orchestrating big events like tempo Thursdays and modeling cast. Mvllibu has only started to scratch the surface for her endeavors while being in the city

Dia who goes by Mvllibu was originally born in orange county California. Mvllibu and her family moved around California often, until the age of 12. When Mvllibu turn 12 her and her family moved to Alabama which was a complete turnaround from California. Having such an abrupt change of location actually sat well with Mvllibu, as she says “ I’m blessed to have experienced both places at such a young age a lot of people don’t get to experience the west and south.” Growing up moving around provided Mvllibu with different cultural experiences, but the main one being poetry. It started in the second grade when she was first ever introduced to poetry, every year since then she’s developed more of a liking towards it, she never really got math but when it came to writing words and letters that was it.

For any artist to produce most of the time there involves the creative process. Mvllibu lets us in on hers from start to bottom. By keeping it in the circle as Mvllibu says she surrounds herself with like minded creative people. Having friends that produce, Mvllibu chooses from their catalogs first as she says “I’m all about community helping people that try to help me” from that point Malibu plays the beats while driving around brainstorming lyrics for the track.

Before moving to Houston, Mvllibu had two choices, it was between Houston or Atlanta “if I go to Atlanta I ain’t gonna do shit I’m supposed to do. I got too many friends and bad influences.” Taking that leap of faith, while knowing nobody in Houston turned out for the better. In the span of a year Mvllibu says how houston has helped her become the real her. While making the city her home by connecting with photographers like Osamars who shot one of her most viral photoshoots which contains her representing black culture at its finest in a room Dripped in jewelry around each finger, with each fingernail being at least 6 inches long reminding you of Chanaynay from Martin. While at the same time in a bed full of money in a white tank top and booty shorts. Besides going viral it’s also her favorite content that she’s made she says “I got in my modeling bag.”

From writing songs to doing photo shoots and setting up events I’ve wondered how Mvllibu stays motivated to continuously stay at it. Her answer was “faith, I move with a lot of faith a lot of patience, and a lot of faith. It’s been tough when it comes to like living and transitioning to Houston but it’s been happening.” A lot of things take time to grow and get used to and that’s been one of her biggest eye-openers lately because even though she loves the attention she still says she has to work on her butterflies from being on stage and even meeting and talking with people. “It gets better over time that’s with anything you do or practice religiously I’m still working on my presents… If you give me some liquid courage I’d be a lot more confident but it’s just something I got a shake being a nervous wreck.”

Remaining conscious of where she’s at in life and where she wants to go it’s pretty inspiring to hear. Not only being an artist but you’re is down the line Mvllibu sees so much for herself from opening galleries fashion shows and maybe even being a Black Panther. Being heavily rude in the community. Mvllibu had a little hard-to-heart saying. There are a lot of things we need to unlearn unpack and we learn how to heal our communities and heal ourselves that’s up to us though and no one‘s gonna do it for us… There’s a narrative that’s being pushed that’s killing me we’re gonna need a special group of people to tie things together.”
