The legend behind the set the one who comes correct, Dj Guwop, formerly known as Danny Guwop is the 27-year-old vibe curator. Dj Guwop is known from even what I’ve personally heard, as the one who sets the vibe, as he says he “paints a picture” with his set. Known for showcasing his skills for boat parties, New Year’s eve parties to multiple parties In Houston and Dallas, and club events, even opening for a concert set, Dj Guwop has been making his name known around the Houston and Dallas area along with his college hometown as well. Not looking to slow down anytime soon. Dj Guwop lives to set the tone at any event that needs his skills.

It all started from a young age, the background of Dj Guwop starts as he was a young jit raised by his mom and dad he says “my parents introducing me to all different types of music, coming from a Nigerian background…….in high school I was always known as the dude to like,  burn CD’s or like put songs on peoples iPod touch, I was always on top of the music.”

Getting out of high school and going to Texas Tech, at parties as he says his friends would use his iPod to get the parties jumping. After a few parties he says “it got to the point where my homies were just like, you should start djing like it just makes the most sense.” The encouragement from his peers is what led him to his first DJ set purchase at the age of 20. Being as he says “the quarterback, the one who sets the tone.” He wasn’t always this outgoing. When first beginning one of his biggest obstacles was getting out of his comfort zone. Growing up pretty shy, Dj Guwop had to overtime, break free from his shell, he says “I was really shy and reserved, djing I could say helped me break out of my shell…… as time goes on you kinda break out of your shell, and your confidence grows.” Constantly practicing before his sets for hours.” Is what really prepared him for the task he says which really helped build his confidence. Being this confident in his performance, the way Guwop looks at his sets is as if it a canvas, “your DJ set is like you painting your art, painting it however you want to paint it.”

Performing at so many events, his most memorable ones so far have been around the new year, on a government holiday, or as he says at one of his homies events such as “the recap, shoutout the homies upper echelon.” What seems to keep guwop going is Having these memorable events and sharing new music he loves, as he says “me being a DJ is like my passion…… music keeps me going, hearing a new song, a lit song, I hear it and I be excited to play it at the next set.”

But there’s much more to djing than just setting up the playlist and hitting transitions, it’s another piece of the craft which is mc’ing. This is one of the only weaknesses in DJ guwops arsenal that he sees needs improvement, just like a quarterback keeping the team poised along with setting the field up for a touchdown, it’s the same way feeling out the crowd, picking the right songs and at the same time Mc’ing the crowd is for a DJ. Mc’ing is a piece of art, in between songs interacting with the crowd and making sure they’re feeling the vibes is really important, “it’s an art.”

After Once hitting a milestone by Dj’ing for key Glocks show in Texas tech for intermission, DJ guwop aspires to really be as he says “Gunna or young thugs DJ.” Dj’ing for An artist that he actually loves is what he aspires to be.

You can catch DJ Guwop at club events behind the booths around the city, especially on the weekends
