The man with integrity and grit, honor and respect A Houstonian,  a man who delivered a message from the south letting it be known that it was cool to be who you were to the public and that unity and honor was key. Chad Lamont butler, known as PIMP C, Is one of the founding fathers of our hometowns UnderGround Kingz (UGK) along with Bun B pioneering the Houston sound of southern country Rap.

Childhood Influences

Pimp c was an only child brought into this world December 29, 1973 by his parents Charleston L. And Weslyn Jacob butler who were originally from Louisiana, which is where he spent a small portion of his upbringing before he came to Houston. Pimps upbringing has always had some source of music inspiration around, from either being the son of a trumpet player to his step dad being in a band. Having such musical influences around, Pimp learned how to play instruments by ear, like the piano, trumpet, drums, and flugelhorn. With this knowledge, pimp began his journey as a producer around the age of 9 when he got his first drum machine and keyboard on Christmas . At a certain point, pimps step father encouraged him to start writing his own music and while being a producer at heart, this gave pimp the ear to craft his sound together. Back in the day they’d call it Cadillac music, country rap tunes. He was at heart a country boy so it was only right, oddly, pimp never believed he could rap all that good, people just loved the way he said his words.

ENTERING THE RAP GAME

For a time in the music industry, New York had the industry on lock, the main music that was pushed was New York rappers, and it was looked at as if, if you weren’t from New York, then you weren’t really a rapper, so with pimp having a mind of his own,  decided to push a sound with Bun B and remain different. This was the origin of UGK, originally being signed to “Big tyme recordz” which is where they released two Eps, “The southern way”, and “Banned” in 1992. The two Ep’s success led to a new signing with Jive Records where they released their debut album, too hard to swallow. In 1996 UGK dropped their third Album which became their most successful making it to #2 on the billboard top r&b hip hop albums chart.

After remaining consistent and making some noise for H-town, UGK took a break but came back in 2000 with jay z on the hit single big pimpin. Word on the street is pimp didn’t even want to do the song because he didn’t wanna seem like they were using jay z for notoriety. So he only gave em a shmeezy few bars which turned out to be the most memorable

Smokin’ out, pourin’ up

Keepin’ lean up in my cup

All my car got leather and wood

In my hood we call it “buck”

Everybody wanna ball

Holla at broads at the mall

If he up, watch him fall

Nigga, I can’t fuck with y’all

After such huge success and momentum building them up. The devil stepped in and locked pimp away in 2002 after being accused of aggravated assault upon a woman at the mall, pimp was sentenced to 8 years. Only doing 3 years in prison into being released in 2005, in 2006 pimp released his second solo studio album pimpalation. Which reached #3 on the us billboard 200. Finally reuniting after a long break In  2007 UGK brought to the world their last album together before he passed giving us  “INTL PLAYERS ANTHEM”. This song you could say was the one of the highest points of their career, being played universally.

FAMILY MAN

Aside from his great accolades with his partner Bun B, Pimp C was a family man. He married his wife, Chinara, while he was in prison and had his first daughter with her named Christian, and also had two boys from his old relationships with one being named chad butler the second Dachory butler.

THE DEATH

In 2007, it’s been talked about as a conspiracy, Pimp c was staying in the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood, California, working on new music with Too $hort. He was scheduled to fly home the next day where his wife, Chinara was waiting on him. But she seen he was late and gave the hotel he was staying at a call. So they went and checked on him and found out that he was dead. Now the coroners say that he died from heavy usage of promethazine and codeine, but when they found him dead, there was blood everywhere. It’s honestly a mystery, whenever the black man is hitting heights and Bringing black people together. They end up getting offed on some scandalous shit.
