Born on September 8, 1980 Stayve Jerome Thomas, better known as Slim Thug was born on the northside of Houston Texas. Out of a family of seven Slim Thug was the youngest of them all, being raised by only his mom with pops out of the picture. Since school slim has always been about rapping or fixing up cars and hanging in the streets. Never into sports, even being begged by the coaches to stay and play after school, Slim only wanted to be out and about in the streets with the influence from his older brothers who were in the streets having two crack houses. Not being too immersed in criminal activity the streets though, slim would only be seen to steal parts from cars to fix up his cars his cars and get more money for himself but this inevitably causing him to go to jail a few times but nothing too extreme or major. Growing older Slim met with some older cats named “Sleep dawg” and “Chi” who ended up showing Slim a whole new side of the world with swangas and foreign cars, this experience ended up opening Slims eyes to a whole New World.
Slims music career began after his half brother wrote his first rap. From that point Slim began perfecting and polishing his craft over a karaoke machine with his best friend Stecil who Slim thug aspired to be a MC with for life. Due to one tragic accident Stecil lost his life earlier than expected in a car crash sitting in the passenger seat. Having Stecil around him every day prior, losing him took a toll on Slim for a while, which he could say motivated him to go even harder.
They say it’s not what do you know Isabelle Hwy now. Being connected with lil Mario helped Slim get plugged into the “All-Star” which was a Houston upcoming rappers showcase hosted by Michael Watts Swishahouse. After his first performance which got great feedback, Michael Watts called him back for the Swishahouse mixtapes edition 98’ which were extremely popular in the Houston streets. On the Swishahouse 98 edition, rapping over the “Homies and thugs” remix featuring Lil Mario and J-Dawg got an amazing response back. Not getting paid to freestyle though, Michael Watts gave Slim Thug tapes and CDs to sale instead, which he would sell outside club chocolate town which was a northside club and got cash Rollin and fast for stone out the tapes. Slim seeing the money he was making, he saw he had to start writing and making more music to sell, clicking into his hustler mentality. Developing his rap skills, Slim became the voice of the North. Hard work paying off, all party events wanted him at their shows. After so much success in Swishahouse with even being able to squash the cities north side and south side beef, Slim was huge and making paper. Being under Swishahouse though slim saw that it was in a way a hindrance which drove him to officially outgrow Swishahouse and go and start his own independent label called Boss Hogg Outlawz. Contains rappers from high school, and other homeboys from Swishahouse and even the southside, came together to make some noise. Slim maintaining his kingdom got the opportunity to do one of Houston’s known anthems with Mike Jones and Paul Wall “Still Tippin.” Nothing but work ethic carrying him, this song was a reaping of planting a seed being probably one of the greatest Houston songs/anthems till this day Slim Thug still makes music till this day that you can find on all streaming platforms and watch more of his documentary on YouTube.
