A genuine soul that can’t be replicated is the feeling you get after speaking or kicking it with sticky the menace. You’d think she was sent here before and now living her second life spreading a message. The menace who’s been going from Dallas to Houston to Austin spreading her name throughout each city with her angelic vocals and sonically pleasing beats. StickytheMenace lets us in on her upbringing her favorite artist, inspirations, and what she stands for in this KodiBlaze interview.

What kind of name is Sticky The Menace I wondered, Sticky says her name came from her Grandma, “when I was like not even old enough to walk and shit, I used to like eat with my hands and stuff a lot, on some kid shit. she gave me the name and so I kept it, I had other nicknames but I ain’t really like just too much resonate with them like that i guess. And then the Menace part came from just being a menace, growing up and just doing hoodrat things.”

Born In Forth Worth Texas, Sticky the menace started her music embarkment in 3rd grade as she says, “music started off with poems… being a journalist and a writer.” With the ability to conjure up stories and whatnot, sticky decided to switch over to writing music. Once writing music began she’d start to do talent shows at school singing and dancing. Having such a sweet voice she’d end up getting encores from the crowd all while only in the third grade.

Growing up with peers as sticky says “I was able to go into every circle, I had white friends, I had nerdy friends, I had anime friends, i had the hood nigga friends, like the music head friends, the niggas that was like super into art…. im very just versatile.. its alot of things that fascinate me and create me as a whole.”

Being able to mesh with so many different cultures rolls over to her music as well which can be thanked for her mom and dad. “My mom had me listening to like Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Fantasia, Erykah Badu, but then i branched out on my own and started listening to lady gaga, black-eyed peas, Nicki Minaj, Radiohead, Food Fighters, and Paramore.. i love Paramore. and then my dad had me on UGK, P Diddy, and like Scarface.”  Out of all the heavy-weight artists influencing her since she was a child, the artist that influenced sticky the most was Eryka Badu. Having her stars align, Sticky actually was blessed with the opportunity to meet Erykah Badu in person. “it was so surreal man, i got to let her listen to my music and she liked it.. that was the first big artist to put me on game and welcome me with open arms.” It wouldn’t be a memorable moment without some real gems being handed down. Being an overthinker as sticky says, Erykah Badu helped to relieve some stress from her mind by letting her know “it’s never gonna be a right time, you gotta go with it and just trust your gut, everything will happen in time.”

Having an understanding of who you are, really puts you in a position of power. which is what led me to ask sticky what she believes sets her apart from others. Sticky answered, “I think there’s a lot of people like me, but they’re just not comfortable doing the things that I do, or have the art capacity to express themselves…..its no gimmick to this shit, I’m not tryna be too cool.” But such confidence in herself didn’t just happen overnight. like anything good it took some time for sticky to get to this point, which is what she loves and stands by. As she says “the self-made process makes it so worth it” But the process isn’t that easy, with all the traveling that’s been going on in her life lately, adjusting to going back to being “a regular pedestrian” is what takes a toll on sticky the most. Keeping the faith that everything will work out is what’s keeping her going, but as soon as she gets that call it’s bye-bye corporate.

From playing beats off her computer and writing and recording songs through voice memos to now recording in top-notch studios drives Sticky to keep on going as sticky says. “I gotta stay hungry… im closer to where I wanna be than to where I started.” “Music to me is venting”  Wondering how does she create the magic that we love, Sticky breaks down her process “ill put on a beat, and whichever I feel, I’ll load it up and start saying shit from the heart.” listening to Sticky’s music which is at times heartbreaking, she takes pride in being that voice for those around who can’t really say how they feel. But there’s a weird thing about sticky. Whenever she drops her music she never goes back to listen to it. In fact in the beginning she used to never even like her own voice as she says but as time went on she developed a liking for it.

5 years from now down the road sticky sees herself in the UK or Africa, making programs for kids.. real estate, Fashion, and modeling. Not limiting herself at all Sticky may be a mogul in the making.
